“Afridi is a world-class all-rounder and that is why he has played a good number of ODIs, and if he has taken back his retirement decision, the selectors will be needing a PCB clearance before giving him a nod for national selection,” said Ilyas who has been appointed as chief selector in the absence of regular chief selector Mohsin Khan who is currently in the UAE with the Pakistan team as head coach for the Sri Lanka series.
“In fact, Afridi had announced the retirement on his own accord while the PCB never forced him to do so. And now if he is coming back, the selectors will consider his case on merit,” Ilyas said.
The chief selector said that the national selection committee would announce the one-day team for the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka after the end of the second Test of the ongoing Test series
